Sacred Concert – Extolling the Greatness of God and the Gospel

September 11, 6 PM

Bible Chapel of Delhi Hills 705 Pontius Road, Cincinnati

513-941-4707   biblechapel@fuse.net   bcdelhi.com

Although 9-11 most often brings to mind the horrors of terrorism and the brokenness of our world it is our desire to use this day to extol the greatness of God and the hope found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

God has given us the wonderful gift of music whereby we can express the praise which is due to His name.  This sacred concert is designed for the single purpose of lifting up and extolling the greatness of the Creator and Redeemer of the world and bringing hearts to find joy and hope in Him.

This night of music will include congregational singing, a number of sacred pieces presented by musicians, soloist, ensembles as well as a joint-choir from several churches in the Cincinnati area.

You are cordially invited to join us. Following the concert there will be a time of food and fellowship.

Bible Chapel Seminar – July 16 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

Bible Chapel Seminar: The Messiah I Never Knew

Purpose: To offer instruction at BCDH aimed at pastors and teachers but open to any with a desire for Biblical instruction at a more complex level.  To assist Bible preachers and teachers by providing on-going training in Biblical Theology of a kind not currently available in commentaries. In my personal seminary training, I never had a course that taught me how the Scriptures work, especially how the inspired authors use narrative to teach theology. What I have learned over the last 15-20 years of study I desire earnestly to share with others who are responsible for teaching the Word of God.

Topic: The Messiah I Never Knew

While 1 Samuel describes David as “a man according to God’s heart,” both liberal and conservative interpreters have found cause to denigrate David’s character, regarding him as a weak monarch at best, at worst a conniving tyrant who used propaganda to leave a false legacy. However, if we understand how 1-2 Samuel works, we will see that some of the very features that have been held up as evidence of David’s weakness are those in which God’s character shines forth most powerfully. Many false conclusions result from a misunderstanding of the phrase “a man according to God’s heart.” This course demonstrates how the books of 1 and 2 Samuel function to present a model messiah. It further demonstrates that Jesus is the Great Messiah precisely because he is like David.

Instructor: Dr. Christopher Jero teaches Old Testament courses through Columbia International University (Columbia, SC) and Mars Hill Academy (Mason, OH). Dr. Jero holds an M.A. in Old Testament from Columbia International University and a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Cognate Languages from Hebrew Union College. He has written and lectured on the subject of interpreting biblical narrative and has recently published on the topic of narrative interpretation in the Bulletin for Biblical Review. Dr. Jero’s desire is to serve the Church of Jesus Christ by assisting Christian leaders and their congregations to interpret Scripture and to recognize its clear call on the life of all people.
